Defense leader works with MND’s MIA Agency
PANO - Deputy Minister of National Defense Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien had a working session with MIA Agency under the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on the search for U.S. servicemen missing in action in the war in Vietnam.
At the event held on April 3 in Hanoi, participants heard reports on the outcomes of the MIA activities in Vietnam. Accordingly, in recent years, Vietnamese and U.S. sides have actively coordinated in MIA activities, achieving remarkable results, positively fostering the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

The good coordination was highly praised by the U.S. Congress, government, socio-political organizations and people as a humanitarian goodwill and an exemplary cooperation model of humanity.
Vietnam and the U.S. are conducting the 158th joint field activity.
In his speech, Gen. Chien highly appreciated the MIA Agency for its pro-activeness, hardship surmounting and task achievements. The defense leader stressed that MIA activities have become a symbol of the cooperative ties between Vietnam and the U.S. in the spirit of closing the past and looking toward the future.
Gen. Chien asked for raised awareness of MIA activities as a deeply humanitarian and humane issue, further coordination between agencies, collection of more relevant information and documents, further dissemination, expansion of international cooperation, and increased application of information technology and use of modern technical equipment in MIA activities.
