Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, who is head of the organizing panel of the Emergency Area event of the Army Games 2022 in Vietnam, chaired the opening ceremony.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Defense Minister of Vietnam Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien; Deputy Director of the General Department of Political Affairs Maj. Gen. Nguyen Van Gau; representative of the organizer of the Army Games 2022 of the Russian Ministry of Defense Rear Admiral Andrey Subbotin; ambassadors and military attachés of countries sending contingents to the event; and participating contingents.

In his opening remarks, General Nghia welcomed delegates and participants. He stressed that the Army Games 2022 is held when the COVID-19 is basically controlled. He highlighted the thorough preparation for organizing the Emergency Area event with the high determination and great efforts of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the support of participating countries.

The Vietnamese general emphasized the significance of the event, saying that it gives participating troops a chance to exchange, hone skills, gain experience in using equipment for reach and rescue mission. It also gives participants an opportunity to exchange cultures, arts, and especially foreign peers to learn more about Vietnam, its culture, people, and military, thereby enhancing understanding, tightening friendship among militaries, contributing to the overall success of the Army Games.

He hoped that with good infrastructure prepared by the host country Vietnam, active practice of competitors, and in the faithful, friendly, and united spirit, participating contingents will achieve their set targets.

Addressing the event, Rear Admiral Andrey Subbotin said that Vietnam’s hosting of the Emergency Area event for the second time is important, contributing to promoting international cooperation and confirming trust in the country of participating countries in general and of participating militaries’ arms and services in particular.

The Russian official highly appreciated Vietnam’s preparation work for the event with high spirit of responsibility.

He wished competitors high results and supporters unforgettable moments and good impressions on the event and participating contingents’ performances. He hoped that more new records will be set.

In the Emergency Area event, six contingents from Belarus, Congo, Myanmar, Mali, Russia and the host Vietnam will compete from August 15 to 19.
