Receiving the group at the airport was Horacio Fernandez, Chief of the Planning Department of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). He said that he was happy to see the Vietnamese friends, that he once had had chance working with in Vietnam, in South Sudan now. After arriving in South Sudan, Captain Thu Ngan said, “I am proud to be part of the L2FH No.1 joining the UN peacekeeping operations in a poor African country that still needs support from the international community. We have been ready for the tasks long before and now I will carry out my own plan to best fulfill the duties of a military medical officer.”

After nearly two hours waiting for customs clearance, the troops and equipment continued their second journey to Bentiu, where the hospital is stationed.

Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Head of the Field Office of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said, “We have finished a huge load of work when transporting the 63-strong level-two field hospital and tons of equipment to Bentiu.” Overweight equipment is also now on the way by sea to South Sudan.

Earlier, the first group of the hospital consisting of 32 medical officers and equipment had arrived in Bentiu. At present, the hospital has completed the first installation stage with the electricity and air-conditioning systems connected and working stably.
