Last year, Mytel built 7,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) and 30,000km of cable in an effort to become the No.1 operator in Myanmar aiming at having its services cover 90 percent of the country.

In the first quarter of this year, Mytel will provide its telecoms services across Myanmar. It also plans to introduce information-technology applications to Myanmar’s businesses, education sector, health sector, and e-government.

Viettel holds a 49 percent stake in the joint venture, while local consortium Myanmar National Telecoms Holding Public Limited (MNTH) and Star High Public Company Limited (Star High) own 28 percent and 23 percent, respectively.

Myanmar is Viettel’s largest foreign market, as its population is around 60 million. The country has been part of the strategy for Viettel’s market expansion, especially in developing Asian markets.
