Addressing the event, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong briefed the foreign diplomats on the city’s achievements in various fields such as socio-economy, culture, external affairs and defense-security.

Notably, their external affairs activities have contributed to popularizing images of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular as well as drawing other resources for local socio-economic development.

Phong also introduced the Vietnamese National Assembly’s resolution to pilot special mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City, and a project to turn the country’s largest southern economic hub into a smart city during the 2017-2020 period, with a vision towards 2025.

The city’s leader thanked the foreign diplomatic agencies for their contributions to Ho Chi Minh City’s development and hoped that they will continue closely work with the city to fulfill its set targets in 2018.

In turn, representatives of foreign diplomatic agencies gave thanks for the assistance from Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities and people over the past time and pledged to support the city’s efforts to reach its development goals.
