Tri Ton is a disadvantaged district of An Giang province and is also one of the poorest districts in the country in the 2021-2025 period. 34% of its population are Khmer ethnic people.

Despites graduating from Can Tho University and having a job, Chau Kim Seng in Co To town, Tri Ton district still decided to start-up in his hometown. He takes advantage of his family's garden to grow hydroponic vegetable coupled with fish farming. He harvests about 10kg of vegetables per day to provide for traders at Co To market, earning over VND 10 million per month on average. For fish farming, he collects about 800kg of catfish a tank every three months.

Instructing a local on how to take care of a breeding cow

Learning about Seng's will and willing to help him expand production and develop economy, the two above-aforementioned organizations proposed to the An Giang provincial Youth Startup Support Center to support him with a loan of 110 VND million to invest in facilities, machinery, and equipment. With the capital, Seng moved to O Lam commune, Tri Ton district for production expansion, focusing on vegetables of high economic value, clean and safe farm products and trading on TikTok, Facebook, and other social network platforms.

Another youth benefits from the support of Tri Ton district’s Youth Federation is Chau Long, a member of Le Tri commune’s cow-breeding group. Each member is supported with a breeding cow worth VND 20 million and provided with breeding and caring skills.

Long said that he is happy to receive the support and gain knowledge and experiences in cow breeding.

Seng and Long are among youths in Tri Ton district with successful start-up under the assistance of the locality’s Youth Federation and Youth Union Organization in terms of finance and farming techniques. Many Khmer youths here have escaped poverty sustainably.

Le Thi Quyen Trang, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union Organization and President of the Youth Federation of the district said that the startup ecosystem of Tri Ton youths is gradually taking shape with many outstanding models among youths in ethnic areas. She hoped that the district's start-up movement will grow more and more, contributing to the development of local household economy and local economy.
