The information was presented at a workshop on mine action and the SDGs, titled "Lessons learned from the KVPVP," which was jointly organized by the Viet Nam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Viet Nam on September 21.

The event brought together representatives from central and local agencies, embassies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, development partners, and agencies working in post-war mine action.
Speaking at the workshop, Francesca Nardini, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Viet Nam, cited a study by the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) on the KVPVP, saying that mine action activities under the project have directly contributed to 16 of the 17 SDGs and at least 69 SDG targets. The experience of the KVPVP has demonstrated the value of pro-actively linking all pillars of mine action with broader development interventions, including resilient infrastructure and livelihoods.
Greta Zeender, Head of External Relations, Policy and Donor Relations at GICHD, emphasized that the KVPVP provides a practical example of the link between peace and development at the national level. The project combines the removal of hazards caused by post-war mines and support for survivors and vulnerable households with investments in rural livelihoods and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Based on findings from the GICHD study, the workshop focused on how mine action can be viewed and integrated into broader sustainable development goals, in line with the implementation of the National Action Program on Post-War Bomb and Mine Consequence Remediation for 2026-2045.
Led by VNMAC, the KVPVP has a total budget of more than USD 14 million in non-refundable ODA from the Government of the Republic of Korea. The project is being implemented in Gia Lai and Quang Ngai provinces and Hue city.
The project aims to address the consequences of post-war mines and explosives, enhance protection for people in communities in the project areas, contribute to local socio-economic development, and support the building of harmonious, safe, prosperous and climate-resilient rural communities in Viet Nam.
