Authorized by the State President, Lt. Gen. Thai Dai Ngoc, Commanding General of Military Region 5, handed over the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" to Battalion 59.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh attended the event.

Battalion 59 was founded on June 10, 1950 in Tam Chanh commune, Tam Ky district (now Tam Ky city), Quang Nam province. In the wartime, troops of the battalion bravely fought against foreign invaders, achieving many feats-of-arms in Central and Central Highlands battlefields.

Comrades Nguyen Luu, Nguyen Ba Duong and Tran Xung of the Battalion 59 were exemplary in patriotic spirit, combat will, and sacrifice. Comrade Nguyen Luu was born in 1913, a resident in Hanh Duc commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province. He commanded Battalion 59 from 1950 to 1954 to destroy many important fortifications of the enemy.

Comrade Tran Xung, born in 1924 in Hoa Hiep, Lien Chieu, Da Nang, died in the Kon Braih Post battle in 1953 in Kon Ray district, Kon Tum province. Comrade Xung joined many battles and excellently fulfilled his tasks.

Family members of comrades Nguyen Luu, Nguyen Ba Duong and Tran Xung receive the noble title.

Born in 1923, comrade Nguyen Ba Duong was a resident of Binh An commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province. This brave, smart officer commanding of a squad under Battalion 59 sacrificed in 1952 in a battle at Nhat Post - Hai Van Gate, Da Nang.

In recognition of their feats-of-arms, on September 30, 2024, the State President signed decision No.959/QD-CTN to confer the title Hero of the People's Armed Forces on Battalion 59 and posthumously bestow the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on three comrades namely Nguyen Luu, Nguyen Ba Duong and Tran Xung.
