Earlier, on October 21, non-commissioned First Lieutenant Nguyen Van Thai and Sergeant Mac Van Hai had accidents while on duty. At Sinh Ton Island Infirmary, they were given first aid.
Hai had symptoms of pain and swelling in his lower pelvis, and signs of edema, which made it difficult for him to walk. Meanwhile, Thai had a headache, multiple injuries and suffered from a brain injury. After a video consultation, doctors of the infirmary proposed higher level authorities to take the patients ashore for effective and safe treatment.
Under the direction of leaders from the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, Military Hospital 175, the Southern Vietnam Helicopter Company under Army Corps 18 assigned a three-person crew to fly an EC-225 helicopter, numbered 8619, to carry doctors and nurses of Military Hospital 175 to Truong Sa island district.
Despite bad weather, the crew, with high resolve and responsibility, successfully flew both doctors and patients to the mainland.
The two patients are now under treatment at Military Hospital 175.
