Operating in the remote communes of Nam Khanh Vinh and Khanh Vinh, the soldiers face significant logistical challenges. With many areas inaccessible to motor vehicles, every brick and bag of cement must be rafted across rivers and hauled manually to the construction sites. Thus, they have been working tirelessly to meet the handover deadline.

Sturdy new structures are now rising from the debris. A Nien, an 80-year-old from the T’rin ethnic group whose riverside house was washed away, is seeing his new house gradually taking shape on safer and higher ground. Nearby in Da Trang village, Cao Thi Hue, 45, of the Raglai ethnic group, is preparing to move into a house designed with a flood-proof house.

Under the banner of “Quang Trung Campaign,” Regiment 974 is tasked with constructing nine new houses and repairing 13 others. Despite the scorching sun, rain, and a lack of on-site electricity and water, the unit’s troops are maintaining a “lightning speed” pace to settle displaced families.
