Lt. Gen. Le Quang Minh speaks at the meeting |
Handing over gifts to the national contributors, Deputy Director of the General Department of Political Affairs Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh briefed them on the outstanding activities of the military over the past time. He stressed that the military has thoroughly grasped the Party’s guidelines; closely followed situations and accurately forecast their developments, thus making prompt recommendations to higher levels; actively coordinated with other forces to manage situations, contributing to the firm protection of the nation’s independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, safeguarding the Party, State, people, and the socialist political system, while ensuring a stable and peaceful environment for national development.
In recent times, the military has actively made proposals and coordinated with relevant agencies to address pending post-war policy issues. To date, it has provided one-time and monthly allowances for over 260,000 people who participated in the resistance war against the French colonialists, nearly 1.7 million people who fought against the U.S. imperialists, over 1.3 million individuals who participated in the defense of the homeland and in international missions in Laos and Cambodia, and over 1.4 million conscripted workers. The “Gratitude” movement has been closely and thoughtfully led and directed by party committees and chains-of-command of units in the entire military, mobilizing many resources to care for revolutionary contributors, creating a profound impact within society.
In terms of locating, collecting, and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers, from 2013 to date, over 21,000 sets of remains have been found and gathered, including more than 10,000 within the country and nearly 11,000 from outside Vietnam.
These efforts by officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army have contributed to enhancing the material and spiritual life of policy beneficiaries and revolutionary contributors, while also educating the military, particularly the younger generation, about the “When drinking water, remember its source” tradition of the Vietnamese people.
