Barge BTR-8421 docks safely. |
The handover was chaired by Senior Captain Bui Van Cuong, Second-in-Command of Brigade 955.
Earlier, at 1 p.m. on July 9, the barge experienced a main engine failure while collecting sand at Vam Lang Sat, Dinh An (Vinh Long province) for transport to Ca Mau province. After its anchor line broke, the barge drifted for six days, covering nearly 200 nautical miles to the waters near Phu Quy special zone (Lam Dong province).

Conducting handover procedures |
Following orders, Ship 950 departed for the rescue mission at 5 p.m. on July 13. On the early morning of July 14, the ship approached the barge and secured towing lines, safely bringing it to Cam Ranh on the morning of July 15. The three crew-members were in stable health, and the barge’s hull remained watertight.
* On the same day, a flight crew from the Southern Vietnam Helicopter Company (Vietnam National Helicopter Corporation, or known as Corps 18) landed safely at Military Hospital 175, handing over a patient from Son Ca Island (Sand Cay), Truong Sa special zone (Khanh Hoa province) for intensive treatment.
Previously, on the evening of July 14, the Super Puma L2 helicopter, registration number VN-8614, departed from Vung Tau airport, picked up a medical team at Tan Son Nhat airport, and flew to Son Ca island. The patient, Phan Van Manh (born in 1985, from Quang Tri province), suffered an occupational accident earlier that morning. As the patient’s condition exceeded the treatment capacity of the island’s infirmary, he was urgently transported to the mainland.
