This is the statement made by Duong Tan Tac, Principal of My Quy Dong Primary School in Duc Hue district, Long An province about Long An border guards’ meaningful activities.

The “Troops pave the way to school for children” project

Recently, in the border areas of Duc Hue district (Thanh Hoa province) and Kien Tuong town (Long An province), three working missions of the Long An provincial Border Guard Command led by its Commanding Officer Senior Colonel Dam Quang Ngoat, Political Commissar Senior Colonel Doan Van An, and Deputy Political Commissar Senior Colonel Duong Van Duoc, granted scholarships, worth VND 7.4 million/child/ year, to 12 ethnic minority students with difficult conditions, children of prestigious people and people with active contribution to border protection. Meanwhile, the missions presented certificates of merit to seven students under the project “Troops pave the way to school for children” who obtained excellent results in the 2022-2023 academic year. The project has focused on providing children with school supplies and necessities (including textbooks, notebooks, clothes, shoes, etc.), money, honoring students with good academic results and more.

According to Mr. Duong Tan Tac, thanks to the care of the Long An provincial Border Guard Command and the Border Post of My Quy Tay Border Gate, My Quy Dong Primary School has improved teaching quality, thereby increasing the rate of good and excellent students dramatically over the past years, especially students under the project “Troops pave the way to school for children” and the program “Supporting children to go to school – Adopted children of border posts.”

Also, he hoped that in the time to come, the units would continue to support the school as well as local authorities in the implementation of projects and programs to help disadvantaged children overcome their difficulties and get access to education, contributing to developing talents and human resources in remote and border areas in My Quy Dong commune.

Kieu Anh Khoa, a 6th grader from My Quy Dong Secondary School, expressed his happiness to receive the scholarship from the project, promising that he would further study hard to become a good citizen in the society.

Light up future for needy students in border areas

Chairwoman of the My Quy Dong commune People’s Committee Truong Thi Thu Trang shared that over the past years, the Long An provincial Border Guard Command and the Border Post of My Quy Tay Border Gate have carried out many practical models and movements to promote socio-economic and cultural development, contributing to increasing cultural and living standards of local people, building a new-style rural area, tightening military-civilian solidarity, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and border security, and ensuring political security and social order and safety in border areas.

According to Senior Colonel Doan Van An, implementing the project “Troops pave the way to school for children” of the Ministry of National Defense and the direction of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, the provincial Border Guard Command has built a concrete plan closely following the task requirements and actual situation.

Since 2022, the command has presented 24 scholarships to disadvantaged students in border areas. These deeds have shown the great efforts of Long An border guards to boost the locality’s socio-economic development, contributing to building a firm people's heart posture and a strong all-people's border defense posture.

Along with the project “Troops pave the way to school for children,” the unit has implemented the program “Supporting children to go to school – Adopted children of border posts” since 2017. Every year, the unit hands over 42 scholarships to students in the locality and Cambodian students, organizes 13 classes with 143 students in Vinh Hung district and Ben Luc townlet.

In addition, border posts have adopted seven children and present gifts, valued at VND 1.2 million each, to them every month. These practical activities have profound humane meaning, creating favorable conditions for disadvantaged children to go to school and become good citizens in society in the future.
