The Naval Region 3 Command hands over a newly-built house to the family of Mai Thi Khuong. |
In early 2026, nearly 3,000 personnel, including soldiers and militia, worked tirelessly in Hoa Thinh, Dak Lak to build homes for flood victims. Inside sturdy, storm-resistant structures nearing completion, the noise of construction machinery blended with the laughter of young troops.
Despite the midday heat, Sergeant Vo Trong Tu of Brigade 574 continued hauling construction materials, while Sergeants Bui Quoc Tuan and Nguyen Kim Dinh Toan plastered walls nearby. Their cheerful singing energized the worksite, easing the strain of a demanding schedule.
During a brief break, Captain Zo Ram Voot, Deputy Technical Head of Company 3, explained that Brigade 574 is responsible for six houses in Phu Phong. This includes a new 100-square-meter residence for Nguyen Thi Trao, a bedridden 93-year-old stroke survivor. The house features a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a flood-resistant mezzanine. To accelerate progress, the unit organized extended shifts, with personnel eating and resting on-site to maintain momentum.

Residents of Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, Gia Lai province, bid an emotional farewell to officers and soldiers participating in “Quang Trung Campaign.” |
As the Quang Trung Campaign entered its final phase, Gen Z soldiers demonstrated exceptional dedication in the flood-stricken provinces of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa. Driven by the principle of “Serving the people,” these units worked tirelessly to ensure local residents could celebrate the Lunar New Year in new homes that symbolize the strong bond between the military and the public.
At inauguration ceremonies, residents praised the soldiers' professionalism and craftsmanship. Many participating personnel from Military Region 5 units volunteered despite their own families living in flood-affected areas, prioritizing the mission over personal concerns. Despite facing harsh weather and logistics challenges, creative strategies allowed all units to exceed their construction targets.
Among the beneficiaries was Mai Thi Khuong, a 97-year-old woman in An Loi hamlet, Gia Lai province, whose home collapsed during the historic floods. Through the campaign, Naval Region 3 Command and partner units built her a new house and provided essential household appliances and furniture, ensuring her family's stability.

Officers and soldiers taking part in “Quang Trung Campaign” work with enthusiasm and the highest determination. |
At the handover ceremony, Khuong expressed gratitude for her sturdy new home, now a secure place to honor the fallen soldier. She recalled how the young troops worked tirelessly through cold rain, even politely declining her offers of food. In return, the soldiers often shared their own rations and fresh supplies from Da Nang with her family.
Two months after the floods, residents have settled into warm, optimistic new lives. For the soldiers involved, each house stands as a testament to their shared hardships and the enduring soldier-civilian bond.
