Earlier, at 20:40 on May 25, the Ha Tinh Maritime Administration received a mayday signal from the ship Cong Thanh 07. According to the report, while transporting nearly 5,000 tons of coal from Quang Ninh to Quang Binh, the ship suddenly encountered a technical failure, causing it to tilt and take on water.
At the time of the accident, 11 crew-members were on board. By around 21:30 the same day, the ship had completely sunk, forcing the crew to jump overboard to escape.
Upon receiving the news, the Vietnam Maritime Administration coordinated with the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, the Ha Tinh Port Authority, and the border guard forces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces to establish a search and rescue command post and deploy emergency measures. Due to harsh weather conditions, including strong waves and high winds, the rescue operation faced numerous difficulties.
At 05:15 on May 26, a nearby fisherman discovered Do Sy Thuong (born 1978 in Diem Dien commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province), the first mate of Cong Thanh 07, and brought him safely to shore.
By noon on May 26, the search and rescue forces had located and successfully rescued the remaining 10 crew-members.
All 11 crew members were brought ashore safely and are currently in stable condition.
To promptly encourage the crew-members, the Ha Tinh Provincial Military Command visited and offered financial support of VND 1 million to each person.
