Tightening military-civilian ties

The Border Post of Quy Nhon Port Border Gate under the Binh Dinh provincial Border Guard Command has conducted activities to care for policy beneficiaries and needy people in the locality.

We followed Major Bui Dinh Nhu from the Border Post of the Quy Nhon Port Border Gate to visit the family of Doan Van Hai - a 6th grader in Thi Nai ward, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. Hai is one of the four students adopted by the unit over the past time. Talking with us, Hai shared that thanks to the wholehearted care and support of border troops, he gained good academic results. “Every year, troops visit and present many gifts, including clothes, school bags, water bottles, raincoats, and other stuff to me. Troops also pay tuition fees for me to share difficulties with my parents,” he said. 

The “Paving the way to school for children” program has been maintained by the Binh Dinh provincial Border Guard Command over the past years. According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Thuy Vu, Deputy Political Chief of the command, up to know, each agency and unit of the command has adopted at least two students. Among them, 68 students have received scholarships, worth VND 2.9 billion in total.

Senior Colonel Phan Truong Son, Political Commissar of the command, shared that building a firm posture of people's hearts in maritime border areas plays a core role in promoting great national unity and building whole people's border defense posture.

Over the past time, the command has built 35 houses and provided 80 livelihood models for local people, organized “Border spring warms up people’s hearts” program to present 4,750 gifts, and offered 2.8 tons of rice to local people, to name but a few.

Upholding power to safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands

Over the past five years, Binh Dinh border guards have closely teamed up with other forces to follow and forecast local situation, thereby timely addressing arising issues in maritime border areas. Attentively, the border guard force has well implemented Prime Minister’s Directive 01 on the organization of the movement “Whole people protecting national sovereignty and border security in the new situation.”

Border troops have collaborated with relevant units to conduct dissemination activities to mobilize local fishermen to continue to reach out to sea and join in activities to safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands, to name but a few.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Linh, Commanding Officer of the Binh Dinh provincial Border Guard Command, affirmed that the implementation of the Whole-people Border Guard Day program contributed to raising responsibility of local party committees and authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front chapters at all levels, and people in building, managing, and protecting national sovereignty and border security. This program also helped uphold the role of people, especially fishermen, in safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands and maintaining security and order, and social safety in maritime border areas.
