Tran Trung Kien (third, from right) informs the border guard force about the self-management in June 2023.

Local resident Tran Trung Kien told us about the silent deeds of fishermen in the locality. In detail, he and five people in Trang Vi area (Tra Co ward) have joined the self-management team to protect border areas. Every day, while conducting fishing activities, they keep track of the situation of fishermen and boats in Bac Luan estuary area. If they notice any unusual signs, they promptly report to Tra Co Border Station. Meanwhile, the self-management team has engaged in search and rescue activities and popularized information about the Party’s guidelines and policies, the State’s laws, and national sovereignty among local people, to name but a few.

According to Do Tien Xuan, manager of Trang Vi area, members’ participation in the self-management team is voluntary and the team’s operation is effective as all members are familiar with fishing grounds and sea waters. In addition, Trang Vi area has set up twinning ties with China’s localities to create favorable conditions for the protection of national sovereignty over border.

The self-management team in Trang Vi is one of the effective models in Quang Ninh. Over the past time, the provincial Border Guard Command has teamed up with functional forces and local authorities to effectively implement the task of building, managing and safeguarding national sovereignty, and ensuring security and safety in border areas, at sea and on islands.

Also, border units implemented many programs to raise troops and people’s awareness of national sovereignty protection, as well as security and safety maintenance in border areas.

Senior Colonel Le Xuan Men, Political Commissar of the Quang Ninh provincial Border Guard Command, underlined that the coordination between the border guards and local authorities has contributed to consolidating defense and security, promoting socio-economic development, and raising the quality of the material and spiritual life of people in border areas and on islands. It has been seen as an important foundation to firmly safeguard territorial sovereignty and national border security, and build a relationship of solidarity and friendship on both sides of the shared border.
