The event was meaningful for the personnel of the Level-2 Field Hospital (L2FH) Rotation 5 who are going to take on U.N. peacekeeping duties to learn about practical experience at U.N. missions from their predecessors.

At the event, difficulties and real on-site experience in organizing, building barracks on the first days when the Vietnamese military medical force arrived at the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were shared.

Leaders of Military Hospital 175 and the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) also shared with the medical staff of the L2FH Rotation 5 experience and solutions to effectively performing the role of a medical staff, implementing Party, political and policy work, and observing discipline, among others.

Speaking at the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, former Deputy Defense Minister emphasized that Vietnam’s participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations is the pride of the military and the nation. A number of officers and soldiers have been undertaking the peacekeeping tasks in different positions and excellently completed them.

Given that Military Hospital 175 was the first military unit managing and training personnel of L2FH for U.N. missions, Gen. Vinh said that the deployment of L2FH Rotation 5 marks the 10th year that the hospital has engaged in the international mission, a special milestone. Therefore, the field hospital must promote responsibility, pride, solidarity, brace difficulties, and show high determination to fulfill its tasks, contributing to affirming the Vietnam People’s Army’s role and images in U.N. peacekeeping operations.

On this occasion, Gen. Vinh presented his book entitled “Instructor” to representatives of L2FH Rotations 1, 3 and all members of L2FH Rotation 5.

Also at the event, field hospital members recalled many unprecedented cases that need creative application of expertise, flexible handling to ensure good care and treatment for patients in any possible situations at a U.N. mission.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, Director of L2FH Rotation 5, said that the lessons and stories shared by former leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the staff of the VNDPKO, Military Hospital 175 at the seminar are very valuable and useful for his staff to apply in reality in the time to come.  “More importantly, L2FH Rotation 5 is motivated to exert more efforts, and be determined to not only successfully complete the tasks but also contribute to building Vietnam's peacekeeping force’s brand at U.N. missions,” Ngoc said.

He added that the field hospital is constantly updating information from UNMISS, and is making thorough preparations to stay ready for the international mission.
