This event holds significant cultural and political meaning, as it marks the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) (December 22, 1944 - 2024), the 35th anniversary of the Whole-people Defense Festive Day (December 22, 1989 - 2024), and the 80th founding anniversary of the VPA’s General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) (December 22, 1944 - 2024).

Launched from June 2023 to October 2024, the writing contest received nearly 1,000 entries from writers across the country. After preliminary and final rounds, the jury decided to award 35 prizes to authors and groups with outstanding works, including one special, three, eight B, 11 C, and 12 consolation prizes.

Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang was present at the event. The ceremony was also attended by other defense leaders and former defense leaders.

Addressing the event, Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, GDP’s Deputy Chief, affirmed that over the past 15 years, the People’s Army Newspaper has actively worked with relevant units to make recommendations to leaders of the GDP to organize the writing contest. This time’s contest attracted the participations of many people who are reporters and writers with nearly 1,000 entries honoring hundreds of exemplary military personnel, former soldiers, and veterans with practical deeds.

Especially this year, the organizers selected and honored 14 individuals, including generals and heroes of the People’s Armed Forces. Each of these figures represents the glorious tradition of the VPA, contributing to building and defending the nation, as well as preserving and promoting the noble virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldier.

In his speech, Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Army Newspaper Major General Doan Xuan Bo affirmed that the 15th “Simple but noble examples” writing contest has been very successful.

On behalf of the writing contest’s organizing panel, Major General Doan Xuan Bo launched the 16th writing contest in 2024-2025.
