Addressing the awarding ceremony, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet noted that this year’s contest had many works with good quality, featuring outstanding examples in the patriotic emulation movement, contributing to encouraging the whole people to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality, and lifestyle.

A long-standing meaningful writing contest

Following the success of the last 13 editions, the 14th one attracted the participation of many people nationwide with good outcomes. The organizing board received more than 200 entries with over 150 ones published on the PAN’s publications. As a result, the organizing board selected 21 outstanding works to award one first, three second, seven third, and ten consolation prizes.

Reportedly, the entries had good quality, reflecting writers’ enthusiasm and passion. According to Major General Doan Xuan Bo, PAN’s Editor-in-Chief and Head of the organizing board, the contest has discovered collectives and individuals in all ages and jobs with noble deeds, bringing many good values to the society. They are outstanding examples of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality, and lifestyle, contributing to making life more beautiful.

Launched in April 2008, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for patriotic emulation, the contest has totally received nearly 4,000 entries, awarding hundreds of authors, and publishing 19 episodes of the book “Simple but noble examples.” Thousands of outstanding examples have been honored; good and creative models have been introduced and popularized, contributing to promoting the spirit of studying and following Uncle Ho’s example among troops, Party members, and people.

The writing contest affirmed the creativeness and effectiveness of the PAN in encouraging and mobilizing people to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality, and lifestyle. It also proved the newspaper’s active role in the fight against wrongful viewpoints by hostile forces while boosting its responsibility in discovering, disseminating and spreading good examples and good values in society.

Finding noble values in all corner of the society

The organizing board has constantly innovated the writing contest, while writers have tried their best to discover outstanding examples hidden in the society, so as to spread good values to the whole society and promote the beautiful images of the Vietnamese people.

In order to feature the image of patriarch Phong, who protects border markers planted in Ha Quang border area (Cao Bang province) for a half of a century, author Nguyen Van Hien visited and lived together with Phong’s family, and went on patrol with the patriarch. His work left deep impression on readers.

In order to bring impressive works to the contest, many authors have “lived” with the main characters in their story. It took the two authors Linh Oanh and Phuong Thao a long time to finish their work named “Vietnamese woman who makes miracles.”

Writing about good people and good deeds is a difficult topic because the good examples are often modest, do not like to show off, causing many difficulties in accessing information. Author Nguyen Viet Ha repeatedly persuaded the main character to agree to publish his silent deeds on the newspaper.

According to the organizers, this year, the authors of outstanding works renewed their story telling style with emotional words so as to highlight the outstanding examples.

Dedicating and beautifying life

During this year’s contest, authors featured many outstanding examples in all fields of life, such as the image of an enthusiastic businesswoman, a border guard active in the fight against criminals, Vietnamese blue-beret teachers in Abyei, or war veterans who always pioneer in the fight against negative phenomena, among others. Especially, the contest also discovered noble examples who are Vietnamese expats making great contribution to the homeland, to name but a few.
