VPN ready for search and rescue missions at sea
PANO – This year, the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) continues to maintain its presence at major ports and waters in order to detect and deal with incidents at sea on time.
Accordingly, naval units will maintain stand-by troops and vessels to conduct search and rescue (SAR) missions, support fishermen to go fishing, and protect other sea-based economic activities.
In 2016, nearly 4,500 naval troops and hundreds of vehicles and ships participated in SAR operations. They saved about 200 troubled fishermen, upgraded 6km of coastal dykes, and evacuated over 210 households to safe places during natural disasters.
Since the beginning of this year, naval units have mobilized approximately 1,000 troops and vehicle to carry out SAR missions, including putting out a blaze in 16ha of forest.
