Sr. Lt. Gen. Tran Quang Phuong speaks at the meeting

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Head of the permanent board of the National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Toxic Chemical Consequences (Steering Committee 701) made the above statement at a meeting to review the information dissemination of the work and to award winners of the online contest themed “Raising awareness of prevention of accidents caused by post-war UXO in Vietnam” on June 5 in Hanoi.

The contest, launched by VNMAC on April 4, attracted 630,000 contestants nationwide, including 142,432 contestants that answered all 15 questions correctly. The organizer presented one first, two second, three third, and ten consolation prizes to the top participants.

In his speech, General Phuong applauded the host of this meaningful contest amid the complex COVID-19 pandemic, considering it an opportunity for people from all walks of life to acquire more knowledge of UXO and preventive measures against post-war UXO and toxic chemicals-related accidents.

General Phuong emphasized the need to further increase the public’s awareness of post-war UXO and related accidents while popularizing successful projects, and effective and creative models to help prevent post-war UXO-related accidents.
