Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister and Chairman of the Vietnamese Sub-committee of the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee for the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center, made the request while chairing a meeting of the sub-committee on January 12 in Hanoi.

According to a report delivered by its general director Major General Dang Hong Trien, last year the center focused on implementing duties outlined in the Resolution of the 31st meeting of the intergovernmental coordinating committee. It flexibly adjusted the scientific and technological research plan in line with reality and developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The center reaped remarkable results in the areas of tropical materials, tropical ecology and tropical biomedicine, and completed all scientific, technological and environmental duties. In addition, it provided suggestions in close attachment with military-defense tasks, economic development, and ecological environmental protection.

Attentively, its studies were applied in the military and its pilot products were highly appreciated in terms of quality and efficiency.

Together with achievements in scientific and technological research, the center responsibly, actively, and effectively participated in foreign relations activities, thus bolstering and expanding the cooperation between the two governments and militaries. It well performed its role as a bridge in scientific study, transfer of technology and scientific and technological services, contributing to strengthening the cooperation in science and technology between the two countries.

Concluding the meeting, General Chien highly praised the center’s outcomes in 2021 and applauded its active, proactive, and effective engagement in COVID-19 prevention and control. Its achievements last year contributed to raising the Ministry of National Defense’s role and position in disaster and incident relief and to ensuring national defense and security.

Apart from the aforementioned request, General Chien asked the center to expand the coordination with Russia and other countries in doing more applied researches and transferring technologies which the center has strength to benefit the country.

The center should upgrade facilities, equipment and other necessities to cope with the pandemic and other potential diseases. It should also make good preparation for the online 32nd meeting of the intergovernmental coordinating committee.
