Promoting information dissemination on drug prevention
PANO - The Counter-Narcotics Police Department held a press conference on June 16 to provide information about drug crimes in the first six months of 2020, the implementation of drug prevention and control in June 2020, and future tasks.
The conference was chaired by its Director Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Vien.
According to the report, in the first six months of 2020, drug crimes have been increasing. The number of drug-related cases increased by 9.46 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, along the Vietnam - Laos border, trade and the transport of illegal drugs, especially synthetic drugs are on the rise.
Recently, drug criminals have taken advantage of the internet to illegally buy and sell narcotics. With such a complicated development in drug crimes over the past time, anti-drug forces in coordination with other relevant forces detected more than 11,000 drug cases, arrested nearly 16,000 people involved, seized 235 kg of heroin, nearly 1.6 tons and more than 68,000 synthetic drug pills, and more than 100kg of marijuana.
In the coming time, the department should direct its affiliated units to cooperate with other forces to strictly implement the Government's directions and the Ministry of Public Security's plans on drug prevention and fight.
They should promote information dissemination on drug-related crimes along the Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia borderlines, coordinate with other local police to destroy lines of drug transportation, and implement international cooperation measures on drugs prevention and combat.
At the event, representatives of the department praised and rewarded a number of journalists for their contributions to the drug prevention and control effort.
