Promoting crime prevention in border areas
PANO – The Border Guard Command held a ceremony to announce the establishment of the Office for the Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking on December 6 in Hanoi.
Earlier, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy-Defense Minister, signed Decision No.1670 to establish the Office for the Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking under the Border Guard Command.

The Office aims to advise and propose reasonable measures for the Border Guard Command to fight human-trafficking crimes; implement prevention and control work according to the provisions of laws, and supplement more staff for units under the Border Guard Command to carry out assigned missions to rapidly detect and control such crimes.
According to the report on the crime prevention and control work in 2017, the forces have detected 9,826 cases with 14,732 subjects arrested during the year (up by 1,179 cases and 1,291 subjects compared to 2016). Particularly, the border guard units have established 115 special campaigns, of which 92 have been successfully deployed, to demolish a range of organized drug gangs involved in the movements of a very large volume of drugs.
