More naval weapon systems to be developed
PANO – On December 5, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Minister of National Defense, chaired a conference to assign tasks to the General Department of Defense Industry and relevant agencies and units for the research, design, and manufacture of naval weapon systems.
In recent months, the General Department of Defense Industry, in coordination with relevant agencies and units, has pro-actively advanced research and drafted preliminary technical–tactical requirements for naval weapon systems. These draft specifications will serve as the basis for scientific workshops and consultations with functional bodies before being submitted to leaders of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army for approval in accordance with regulations.

Based on assessments of system architecture and technical–tactical characteristics, as well as results of domestic research projects and implementation methodologies, it can be affirmed that the research, design, and production of naval weapon systems are entirely feasible.
Delivering his directives, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam emphasized that naval weapon systems incorporate multiple advanced technologies and feature high scientific and technical complexity. Therefore, the General Department of Defense Industry must closely coordinate with capable units inside and outside the military, while also strengthening international cooperation in research and technology transfer.
He underscored the need to develop a realistic and practical product development roadmap to ensure effective implementation, meeting all technical–tactical requirements approved by competent authorities. The Deputy Defense Minister also requested that agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense create favorable conditions, coordinate closely, and support the General Department of Defense Industry throughout the processes of research, production, testing, and timely resolution of administrative procedures arising during task execution.
