At the meeting, General Giang
acknowledged and applauded the coast guard force for their good task performance over
the past years. He highlighted the command’s Party committee and Chain-of-command’s direction in embracing the Central Military Commission’s resolution
on leading the implementation of military-defense missions in 2017, its strict
observation of all-level duties and combat readiness posture as well as
flexibly handling any circumstances, even unexpected ones.
As reported, coast guard units
conducted a number of patrols at sea, finding thousands of violations of
foreign fishing boats, making thousands of orders to violating vessels to
depart Vietnamese waters and releasing 168 ships which had been arrested. They
also found and dealt with 686 cases of smuggling and trade fraud at sea,
seizing heroin, oil, coal and ores of different kinds.
In the year, the Coast Guard Command
tasked 40 ships to search and rescue missions, saving 228 people, finding 14
bodies and towing ashore 12 distressed ships.
In conclusion, General Giang asked
the command to pay more attention to building a firm political stance for its
troops, promoting training to improve the staff’s expertise and
professionalism, including mastering new weapons and technical equipment and
improving their foreign language skills, and effectively managing and fully utilizing
new barracks.
