Since the beginning of this year, the GS directed the whole military to accomplish all assigned missions; strictly observed combat readiness regulations; followed situational developments to handle arising issues in a timely and effective manner; and closely coordinated with functional forces to ensure political security, social order and safety in localities across the country and during major events of the Party and nation.

The department directed agencies and units to conduct training activities, exercises and defense competitions as planned and made good preparations for drills directed by the Ministry of National Defense in 2024, while strictly implementing directions of the Party, State, Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense on bracing for the third storm and its circulation, overcoming their consequences and conducting search and rescue operations; as well as mobilizing personnel and vehicles to help people and localities to surmount storm aftermath to soon resume their normal life.

In his remarks, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong praised the results of the military-defense task implementation obtained by agencies and units in the whole military in September. Notably, the military well performed the mission of “combat in peacetime” in the third storm, affirming its core role in natural disaster prevention and control, incident settlement and search and rescue operations, to name but a few.

Regarding the orientations in October, the GS chief required the whole military to strictly maintain combat readiness observance; thoroughly follow situations; well prepare for the MND-level conference to review the Law on non-commissioned officers and defense workers in 2015; direct the units to make preparation and organize live-fire exercises; and successfully organize the Defense Sports Competition 2024, among others.

Meanwhile, the agencies and units should maintain regularity and military discipline; ensure safety when participating in traffic; maintain an on-duty posture to be ready for search and rescue missions at all levels; pro-actively monitor situations to deal with any issues related to natural disasters, search and rescue, diseases and environmental disasters, etc.
