On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the day of the border guard force and the 34th anniversary of the all people’s border defense, Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan granted an interview to the People’s Army Newspaper on promoting the national strength in national border building and protection.

Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan affirmed that determining the day of the border guard force as the all people’s Border Defense Day holds profound significance and is a long-term strategic issue, encouraging the building of strong border guard force. Building the all people’s border defense and border defense posture is the responsibility of the whole political system and the whole nation.
The fact shows that the border guard force’s day and the Border Guard Festive Day have become the festival of the whole people, especially those in border areas. These activities have significantly enhanced people and whole political system’s awareness of and responsibility for building, managing, and protecting national border and consolidated the solidarity among people and organizations in the political system with the border guard force in particular and the military in general, contributing to creating synergy in carrying out the border and Fatherland protection task.
Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan affirmed that building the all people’s border defense and border defense posture to firmly manage and protect national border is inevitable and absolutely right. It inherits and promotes the nation's tradition and lesson, "People are the root," of the nation and grasps the Party’s viewpoint that revolution is the whole people’s cause.
The Vietnamese Party and State always affirm that the strength to protect the border is the synergy of the whole nation and emphasize the need to build a strong and widespread whole people border guard force, in which the people are the subject, and the people's armed forces are the core.
According to the Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command, the border guard force has over the past time fulfilled its missions of managing and protecting national border. Notably, the force has closely followed situational developments and made timely recommendations to higher levels to issue leadership guidelines and measures to firmly manage and protect national sovereignty and security and effectively combat hostile forces and crime in border areas.
The force has promoted its core role in building the all people’s border defense and border defense posture through practical and effective activities. In particular, border guard units have well coordinated with and advised local Party committees and authorities to take measures to build the all people’s border defense and border defense posture; fostered dissemination of the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and law; actively participated in building defensive areas at province and district levels; proposed plans on strengthening infrastructure, developing socio-economy, carrying out policies on ethnicity and religions in border areas in association with defense and security consolidation; pro-actively and actively participated in natural disasters and diseases response, search and rescue, and hunger elimination and poverty reduction.
Notably, the border guard has pro-actively and actively participated in the movement of building the grassroots political system. More than 300 border guard officers have been sent to local Party committees, and more than 2,000 Party members of the force are members of the party organizations of villages.
The force has effectively carried out the Border Guard Festive Day and the movement, titled “All whole people participating in protecting national sovereignty and security in border areas in the new period.” All border hamlets have established self-management teams with all local people volunteer to manage the borderline and border markers. More than 3,000 groups of ships have joined the effort of safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands. During the COVID-19 pandemic time, the border guard launched the “Whole people take part in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic and illegal exit and entry” and obtained practical results.

Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan also emphasized the importance of information dissemination in building “the people’s heart” posture. Fully aware of that, border troops have fostered dissemination to raise locals’ awareness and responsibility for protecting the borderline and combating schemes of hostile forces and crime.
Over the past time, activities for those in border areas, at sea, and on islands have been practically and effectively carried out by the border guard, central agencies, ministries, organizations, localities, and businesses. Outstanding activities are “Cozy houses in border area” program, which has built around 10,000 houses and projects; “Breeding cows help needy people in border areas” program which has handed over more than 30,000 cows to people; the “Accompanying women in border area” program which has mobilized more than VND 200 billion to assist households in developing domestic economy.
The border guard has also conducted movements and models to help border localities build new-style rural areas, needy students continue their education, and local people have happy New Year.
The Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command said that Vietnam has a long borderline and borders several countries, requiring the country to promote the spirit of joining hands to build a firm borderline, relying on people for building a stronger border. He also emphasized the need of consolidating “people’s heart posture.”
