Get-together marks 81st anniversary of GS’s foundation day
PANO - On August 28 in Ho Chi Minh City, the General Staff (GS) of the Viet Nam People’s Army held a get-together with representatives of generations of officers who are living in the Southern region to mark its 81st founding anniversary (September 7, 1945 - 2026). General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defense, chaired the event.
Attending the event were former Deputy Ministers of National Defense Senior Lieutenant Generals Tran Don and Le Chiem, together with Deputy Chiefs of the GS Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Lieutenant General Nguyen Ba Luc, and Lieutenant General Le Van Huong.

Also present were Senior Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, Secretary of the Gia Lai provincial Party Committee, and former Deputy Chief of the GS; Lieutenant General Le Xuan The, Commander of Military Region 7; as well as retired generals, senior officers of the GS, and representatives of agencies and units in Southern region.
At the meeting, delegates reviewed the GS’s 81-year tradition of construction and development, while expressing their appreciation for the unit’s achievements over the past time.
On behalf of the Standing Board of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Nguyen Tan Cuong extended his best wishes for health and happiness to the delegates and their families. He also briefed them on developments in the global, regional, and domestic situations, as well as notable results in military and defense work.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that the GS’s development over the past 81 years has been closely linked to the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as the dedication and sacrifices of generations of officers and soldiers. He expressed deep gratitude to those who devoted their lives to the cause of national liberation and reunification and to the building of the military.
The GS chief stressed that former generals and senior officers remain a firm fulcrum for today’s generation. He expressed his hope that the GS would continue to receive their valuable opinions and encouragement, helping its officers and soldiers successfully fulfill all assigned tasks and continue to make further achievements in the new era.
