In his commemorative speech, Major General Tran Tuan Hung, Chief of the General Staff’s Office, recalled that only five days after the General Staff was established, on September 12, 1945, the first Chief of the General Staff, General Hoang Van Thai, decided to found the Office to coordinate with other agencies and assist the Commander-in-Chief in leading and commanding the armed forces. Throughout the resistance wars against French colonialists and U.S. imperialists, the Office successfully fulfilled its functions, promptly supporting the General Staff leaders in command and operational direction, thereby contributing to the national struggle for independence and freedom. In peacetime, the Office has continued to uphold its traditions, strictly implementing Party’s guidelines and State’s policies, proactively advising, drafting documents, and proposing measures for the General Staff to manage, command, and accomplish all military and defense tasks.
