General Staff holds politico-military conference
PANO – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army held a politico-military conference on December 30 to map out its 2020 tasks under the chair of its Chief, who is also Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang.
Reportedly, the agency comprehensively implemented resolutions of the Central Military Commission and directives of Chief of the General Staff to fulfill its set plans. Also, it proposed timely advice to senior levels to deal with all situations, and carry out strategies on developing the socio-economy in line with reinforcing defense and security dispositions while directing relevant units to accomplish assigned tasks.

In addition, the General Staff seriously maintained combat readiness as scheduled and rearrange their units towards elite and strong forces. The training missions have been regularly renewed with a focus on night exercises, mastering new weapons and military equipment, enhancing troops’ physical health and upgrading training grounds.
Speaking at the event, General Giang acknowledged and praised the agency’s achievements, and at the same time pointed out its shortcomings in 2019. For 2020, the Chief of the General Staff asked the organ to continue to forecast situations and offered timely consultation to the Party and State to cope with defense-security issues. On the other hands, he urged the affiliated units to ensure forces for all missions maintain high combat readiness and successfully perform military recruitment and training.
