The General Department II, also known as the General Department of Defense Intelligence, under the Defense Ministry on October 25 held a meeting to receive the title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” and to celebrate the 74th founding anniversary of the defense intelligence sector.

Present at the event were Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman; Truong Hoa Binh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defense Minister; Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister; among others.

At the event, Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Hung, Director of the general department II recalled its glorious feats of arms over the past 74 years. Accordingly, the unit has performed well in all assigned missions, remarkably contributing to the national construction and defense cause.

In acknowledgment of their all-out efforts and high political responsibility over the past time, the Party and State presented the general department with the title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces”. The great accomplishments of General Department II’s affiliated units have built up the traditions of the defense intelligence sector.

On behalf of the Party and State, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan handed over the “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” title to General Department II.

Speaking at the event, she hailed the unit’s achievements over the last 74 years, while underscoring that it was an honor of the unit to receive such noble title.

The NA Chairwoman also requested the unit to uphold its traditions in the current context while being deserving of the honorable title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” as well as earning the trust of the Party, State, and people.
