GDP chief inspects flood prevention and consequence mitigation in Tuyen Quang
PANO - Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet inspected the work on flood prevention and overcoming its consequences in Tuyen Quang province on September 11.
Before working with the Tuyen Quang provincial Party and People’s Committees, Sr. Lt. Gen. Trinh Van Quyet conducted direct inspections in flood-hit areas in My Bang commune (Yen Son district) and Tuyen Quang city; as well as inquired after and presented gifts to flood-hit people with difficult conditions.

During the working session, the GDP chief was briefed on the flood situation in the province and the consequence mitigation.

According to Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, due to the impact of the third storm, the province witnessed heavy rains, causing deep flooding in 101 areas and traffic congestion, and exerting severe effects on people’s life. Three bridges were destroyed; the traffic system, irrigation projects, electricity and telecommunications networks were also severely damaged, to name but a few.
The third storm and flood claimed two lives and left one missing. More than 3,500 houses had their roofs blown off and were flooded. Thousands of hectares of crops were damaged. The whole province evacuated 3,989 households.

In his remarks, Sr. Lt. Gen. Trinh Van Quyet required the Party Committee, authority and the whole political system of Tuyen Quang province to overcome flood consequences according to “four on-spots” motto, prioritizing rescuing people and evacuating them to safe places. For isolated areas, the province should seek ways to approach and support flood-hit people. After the flood, disease prevention and control and environment sanitation should be effectively implemented to soon resume the normal life.
The GDP chief also requested Military Region 2’s forces to continue to fully prepare personnel and vehicles for any circumstances.
