As one of the first two regular divisions operating in the Southeastern battlefield, Division 5 has, over the past six decades of construction, combat, and growth, recorded numerous outstanding feats-of-arms in the national safeguarding missions, and the implementation of international duties in support of Cambodia. The division has been awarded the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces twice by the Party and State, along with many other high distinctions.
In the current context, Division 5 has continued enhancing regulatory building; renewing and improving training quality and combat readiness; and proactively engaging in mass mobilization efforts, contributing to strengthening the “people’s heart posture” in its stationed areas. Since 2020, the Division has been awarded the Second-class Fatherland Protection Order by the State President, as well as multiple commendations by the Ministry of National Defense and Military Region 7.

Addressing the ceremony, General Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed profound gratitude to fallen heroes and generations of leaders, officers, and soldiers of the division, and praised its notable achievements over 60 years. He requested the unit’s Party committees and commanding officers to continue thoroughly grasping the directives and resolutions of the Party and the Central Military Commission; renewing thinking and action; promoting the application of science and technology; and improving overall quality and combat strength. The division must remain pro-active in forecasting and assessing all situations, he stressed.
The GDP chief emphasized strengthening political education and enhancing the effectiveness of Party and political work, closely tied with building regularity, cultivating a healthy cultural environment, and actively participating in mass mobilization, thus to consolidate the “people’s heart posture” and foster strong military-civilian solidarity. Each officer and soldier must uphold and promote the noble virtues of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” in the new era.
General Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his confidence that the division’s officers and soldiers will continue the proud traditions of their predecessors, cultivate both virtue and competence, build strong Party organizations, and develop comprehensively strong, “exemplary and typical” units, successfully accomplishing all missions in the new period.
