According to a report delivered by Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu, since the beginning of this year, the province has achieved significant results in all areas of social-economic development. The economic growth rate (GRDP) reached 6.5%-7%; state budget revenue reached VND 6 trillion, fulfilling 51% of the set plan. During the period, 19 new investment projects were licensed with a total registered capital of over VND 5.2 trillion.

The Central province has witnessed significant changes in tourism sector, socio-economy, social welfare, preservation and development of values of relics, industrial sector, healthcare, education, science and technology, administrative reform, and party building, among others.

Regarding defense and security, the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee have led and directed localities and units to effectively carry out military and defense mission, enlistment, and defense and security education.

Having heard the report, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang praised the provincial party organization, authorities, people, and armed forces for their obtained results. Underscoring Military Region 4’s important strategic position in socio-economic development and in ensuring defense and security, Gen. Giang suggested Thua Thien Hue province continue to determine that socio-economic development is an important task, Party building is a key one, cultural development is the spiritual foundation, and defense and security is a vital task.

He urged the province to continue to mobilize and effectively utilize all resources to promote socio-economic development, consistently focus on ensuring defense and security, and maintain stability and absolute safety in all aspects.

General Phan Van Giang suggested Thua Thien Hue province continue to strengthen its defense capabilities, build strong whole people's defense posture coupled with the whole people's security posture, the people's border defense, and defensive areas of the province and districts.

* The same day, the Defense Minister and the working delegation visited and worked with the Thua Thien Hue provincial Military Command and Border Guard Command, during which he acknowledged and praised outstanding outcomes obtained by the two units over the past time.

Gen. Giang expressed his confidence that the officers and soldiers of the units would continue to strive, overcome all difficulties and hardships, excellently fulfill all assigned tasks, significantly contributing to the rapid and sustainable development of Thua Thien Hue province. He urged the province to closely follow and accurately forecast the situation and coordinate with relevant forces to maintain political security, social order, and safety.

The defense leader highlighted that the mission of ensuring military and defense affairs, managing and protecting sovereignty and border security is the top and focal duty of the armed forces. Therefore, military units should enhance their pro-activeness, organize training, and prepare plans, forces, and vehicles to respond to natural disasters, conduct search and rescue, forest fire prevention and fighting, and effectively combat crimes in the border areas.

The Defense Minister also emphasized the need to focus on building unity, strong and healthy Party organizations, and comprehensive strong, exemplary, and outstanding units; foster coordination in implementing mass mobilization work; regularly care for and support people, especially ethnic minority communities, in their socio-economic development and poverty reduction.
