At the session with the GDP, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the military’s achievements in 2025 and early 2026 have reflected strong efforts of military officers and soldiers. He highlighted the GDP’s effective suggestions given to the Central Military Commission (CMC) to help protect the Party’s ideological foundation in the military. He also hailed the GDP for strengthening political and ideological education, promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in the new situation, and coordinating to successfully organize major national commemorations and political-cultural activities, while making progress in personnel work, internal political protection, mass mobilization, and social policy programs.

The defense chief requested the GDP to continue implementing higher-level directives, improve strategic forecasting and advisory work related to building politically-strong military, counter hostile activities, and ensure absolute safety for major political events.
The agency was also urged to implement Party General Secretary’s instructions and make breakthroughs in scientific and technological development, innovation, and digital transformation. It was asked to improve Party and political work in key missions, such as combat readiness, military modernization, defense industry development, and discipline building; and raise effectiveness of coordination in task performance.
At the working session with the GS, Defense Minister Giang noted that the GS had made important contributions to the successful completion of military-defense tasks in 2025 and early 2026. He requested the GS to enhance research and strategic forecasting, give timely advice to the Party, State, and CMC on defense policies and responses to contingencies.

The GS was also tasked with strengthening training quality, including night training, complex scenario exercises, and mastery of new and modern weapons and equipment. Other priorities include improving defense and security education, building strong militia and reserve forces, enhancing disaster response and search and rescue capabilities, and continuing efforts to standardize discipline and military management.
The minister also stressed that the Party Committee of the GS - Defense Ministry’s Organ must strengthen leadership across all areas, uphold democratic centralism, maintain internal unity, and improve the leadership capacity and combat strength of Party organizations and cadres.
