Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, chaired the conference.

Present at the event were permanent members of the Central Military Commission: State President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as well as General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defense Minister and Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

Addressing the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated recent achievements of the commission, particularly in giving advice to the Party and the State to effectively implement Resolution No.4 of the 12th Party Central Committee on enhancing Party building and revamping, preventing and controlling the ideological, political and lifestyle degradation as well as “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” inside the Party.

The commission has also directed the whole army to strictly implement the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on building a whole-people defense posture in combination with a firm people security posture and developing a revolutionary, regular, elite and increasingly modernized army.

In addition, the commission guided relevant units to enhance international integration and defense external affairs, contributing to reinforcing a peaceful and stable environment for the national construction and defense cause while promoting the army’s key role in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and implementing search and rescue tasks, the Party chief added.

He also reiterated that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense should continue directing military units to implement fully the resolutions of the Party Central Committee and the 10th Military Party Congress to heighten the leadership of the army’s Party organizations.

He suggested the commission to work out particular measures to deal with unexpected situations and improve training quality, combat readiness and disciplinary observance, contributing to the fulfillment of their assigned political tasks as well as the firm protection of national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
