PANO - The Central Military Commission (CMC) on November 30 summoned a conference to review the outcomes of its leadership in implementing military-defense tasks and building the military Party organization in 2016, and roll out leadership orientations and missions for 2017.

Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the CMC; Tran Dai Quang, Politburo member, State President and permanent member of the CMC; Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member, Prime Minister and permanent member of the CMC; General Ngo Xuan Lich, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the CMC and Minister of National Defense, attended the conference.

Addressing the event, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the CMC Nguyen Phu Trong confirmed that 2016 is the first year the resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress are studied and implemented.

Amid difficulties and complex situations, the CMC consolidated leadership, overcame all obstacles and successfully fulfilled all assigned tasks. The commission has given good recommendations to the Party and the State on implementing national-level military and defense missions, closely monitored the situation and exactly forecast major developments so as to well handle every emerging issue. It has also promoted external activities aiming at pragmatic outcomes.

Under the leadership of the CMC, the People’s Army of Vietnam has well performed its main functions and roles in defending national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity; building a firm whole-people defense posture; actively participating in natural disaster prevention and relief and search and rescue missions; as well as overcoming consequences of war.

Moreover, the Army’s comprehensive quality and combat readiness capacity have been raised while troops’ political and ideological stance and their material and cultural life has continuously been improved. Meanwhile, the internal unity and the leadership capacity of Party organizations in army units were consolidated. The whole army has always firmly and resolutely trusted the Party’s leadership and been ready to undertake and accomplish every task to be assigned.

Regarding the leadership orientations and missions for 2017, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong underscored that 2017 will see more complex situations in the region and the world as a whole. Along with advantages, the country will face a number of challenges that may have direct impacts on leading and implementing military and defense missions. Therefore, the CMC and the Ministry of National Defense must concentrate its leadership on the following key contents:

Firstly, to improve the quality of the commission’s leadership in catching up with any situational developments to give timely advice to the Party and the State on military and defense missions while well addressing any possible circumstances to firmly protect national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, the Party, the State, people and socialism.

Secondly, to promote the Army’s core role in building the whole people's defense and the whole people's defense disposition in combination with a firm people's security posture.

Thirdly, to boost international integration and the effectiveness of defense external relations work, and build on strategic trust with other countries, contributing to improving the army’s status and well implementing the Party’s and the State’s policies on foreign relations.

Fourthly, to improve comprehensive quality, strength and combat readiness capacity of the army so as to successfully fulfil the mission of national defense in the new situation.

Finally, to enhance the Military Party Organization's leadership and combat strength to direct the whole army to accomplish all assigned tasks.
