The event was attended by Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan and representatives from relevant agencies of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, the General Department of Political Affairs, Hanoi-based units and Brigade 144.

Delivering the report on the establishment and development of the unit over the past years, the brigade’s Commanding Officer Senior Colonel Hoang Ngoc Chien emphasized that after its establishment in Viet Bac War Zone, generations of the unit’s personnel raised their responsibility to fulfill missions, contributing to the success of the resistance war against the French colonialists.

In the resistance war again the U.S. imperialists, apart from protecting safety for the Defense Ministry’s agencies, the unit successfully completed other tasks, contributing to socialism building in the North and Southern liberation and national reunification cause. The unit effectively fulfilled the preservation and protection of President Ho Chi Minh’s body. 

Over the past seven decades, generations of personnel of the brigade have demonstrated their absolute loyalty, activeness, creativeness and readiness to fulfill all assigned missions. For its achievements, the unit was honored with different noble orders and titles, including the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces.

Speaking at the celebration, Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan praised achievements and contribution of Brigade 144’s personnel over the past 70 years.

Mentioning the higher task requirements in the coming time, the deputy chief of the General Staff asked the unit’s personnel to promote training and studying to raise their political stance and heighten their vigilance and combat readiness to fight all schemes and plots of hostile forces in a timely and effective manner.

General Tan also requested the unit to focus on building a politically-, ideologically-, organizationally- and morally-strong Party organization and raising quality of training and combat readiness. He also stressed the need to focus on regulation building, build a fresh and democratic environment and raise the material and spiritual life for its personnel. 

Authorized by the State President, Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan pinned the third-class Fatherland Protection Order onto Brigade 144’s determined to win flag. On the occasion, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang sent a letter of compliment to the unit’s personnel.
