Border troops tighten measures to respond to non-traditional security threats
PANO – Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Commander of the Vietna Border Guard Command, had a working session with the Department of Border Gates on May 5 in Hanoi.
Reportedly, for the first four months of 2020, border troops at border gates have implemented immigration procedures for 5,950,693 people and isolated 46,480 upon entry at concentrated quarantine areas since February 2.
The import and export value in the last four months has sharply decreased in comparison to the same period last year due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, drug crimes and cross-border smuggling increased along the Vietnamese-Chinese and Vietnamese-Cambodian borders.
The Department of Border Gates has actively followed all situations and directed provincial and municipal border guard commands to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the working session, Senior Colonel Do Ngoc Toan, Head of the Department of Border Gates reported the unit’s task performance in recent months. In addition, he gave several suggestions concerning border management and immigration control as well as other relevant matters.
In conclusion, General Chien required the Department of Border Gates to continue following all situations in the border areas and at the same time asked all troops to change their attitude and behaviors to respond to the current and ongoing non-traditional security threats.
