Lt. Gen. Le Duc Thai, Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, addresses the event. |
Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, and Lt. Gen. Do Danh Vuong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the command, attended the event.
The standing agency is tasked with advising the Standing Board of the Party Committee and Chain-of-Command of the Vietnam Border Guard Command to inspect and guide Southern units to realize resolutions, guideline, directives, and orders of the Vietnam Border Guard Command’s Party Committee and leaders on border affairs, party and force building.
Based on its close watch of situational developments in border areas, the standing agency has given timely suggestions to the Party Committee and leaders of the command to direct the effective implementation of national border security and territorial sovereignty, independence protection duties as well as COVID-19 prevention and control.
Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19, the agency has established a lot of delegations, sent hundreds of troops to directly follow situational developments in border areas, inspected, instructed border units, and encouraged border guards taking on tasks of border management and defense and disease prevention and control.

The agency receives the third-class Fatherland Protection Order and a certificate. |
The agency has also mobilized medical equipment and other basic necessities, worth over VND 20 billion, for the COVID-19 efforts. It has directed units to crack down on a number of drug trafficking rings and illegal immigration cases while enhancing defense diplomacy and border external affairs and supporting pandemic-hit people.
Acknowledging and applauding the agency’s outstanding achievements, especially in COVID-19 prevention, General Thai asked its personnel to bring into play what they have achieved, heighten determination to accomplish their missions and build a comprehensively-strong and exemplary agency.
The agency should continue to do mass mobilization work, assist locals in hunger elimination and poverty reduction, actively prevent and control natural disasters, carry out search and rescue, and boost law dissemination, General Thai urged.
He also requested the agency to better its advisory role to contribute to the efficiency of defense diplomacy and people-to-people exchange.
As the lunar New Year is coming, the agency should check Southern units’ combat readiness posture and patrols to protect land and sea borders.
