Commander of Army Corps 3 Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan addressing the event |
The ceremony was attended by leaders and former leaders of Army Corps 3, representatives from the local authorities, and all officers and soldiers of the brigade.
Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Tran Duy Hai, Commanding Officer of Brigade 234, reviewed the 60-year history of the foundation and development of the brigade, and paid tribute to heroes and martyrs, honored the merits and dedication of generations of brigade officers and soldiers in the cause of national liberation, construction and defense.
To expand the war to the North using air force, the U.S. imperialists carried out the “Special War” strategy. Facing that situation, the Party focused on implementing the “ground-to-air” people’s war, so as to be ready to defeat all enemy plots.
Following the direction of Politburo and the MND, on May 1, 1963, in Bao Son village, Hanh Phuc commune, Vinh Yen town, Vinh Phuc province (now Bao Son residential cluster, Lien Bao ward, Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc province), the 57mm Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment named Regiment 234 under the Air Defense Command (Brigade 234’s predecessor), was officially established.

An art performance during the event |
Immediately after the establishment, the brigade’s officers and soldiers overcame all difficulties, with high determination, to destroy enemy aircraft. During the national liberation war, Brigade 234 fought to protect 18 Northern provinces and many battlefields in the Central Highlands, the South, and Laos, making numerous victories and outstanding achievements. Notably, the Brigade was honored to welcome Uncle Ho twice.
To meet the mission requirements in the current context, Brigade 234 has regularly innovated, improved the training quality and combat readiness, safeguarded the airspace, and built an elite and compact force. The Brigade’s annual training results are always recognized and appreciated by the MND.
Besides, Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan also recognized and praised the outstanding achievements over the past 60 years and requested the unit to thoroughly grasp the Resolution and Directives of the Ministry and the Army Corps 3 to successfully fulfill all assigned tasks.
Several tasks which can be mentioned are educating all officers and soldiers with firm political stance and belief in the Party, constantly improving training quality and combat readiness, building a regular unit, implementing mass mobilization and policy work to improve troops’ life.
