* At a meeting in Da Nang city, retired officers recalled the glorious traditions of the heroic Vietnam People’s Army and the municipal armed forces. They were also briefed on Da Nang’s socio-economic, defense and security achievements, which were partly contributed by the provincial armed forces.
On the occasion, the city’s leadership handed over first-, second- and third-class Fatherland Protection Orders to 13 retired officers in the locality.
* The Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard Command, in association with the provincial Youth Committee, held a ceremony to report local troops’ achievements to President Ho Chi Minh at the national-level historical relic temple dedicated to him and honor ten outstanding young troops and other ten young potential faces.
Over the past years, the province’s border guard force has actively disseminated laws to tens of thousands of fishermen and managed more than 6,000 boats.
* Meanwhile, military and civilian photographers in Ho Chi Minh City opened a thirteen-day exhibition to showcase 108 photos reflecting the Vietnamese troops in training, combat readiness, production, cultural activities, defense external relations, disaster prevention, search and rescue, environmental protection, building of the new rural area model and public healthcare activities.
In addition, the exhibition also introduced nine photo essays with stories about troops safeguarding national seas and islands and caring for public health, as well as the friendship between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Especially, photos taken during wartime by war reporters Trieu Hung, Doan Cong Tinh and Hong Phuong are also on display at the event.
* The People’s Army Newspaper and the Department of Information and Training of the General Department of Politics co-organized a seminar on virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in Hanoi, as part of activities to promote dissemination on traditions and virtues of Uncle’s soldiers in the current period and outcomes of the five-year implementation of directives.
The event contributed to promoting the movement “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals and life style” and the implementation of a resolution on Party building and revamping and the movement “Promoting traditions, contributing talents, deserving to be Uncle Ho's soldiers.” It also helped raise troops’ awareness of and responsibility for task implementation as well as popularize exemplary troops with outstanding achievements in carrying out the movements, directives and in combating wrongful viewpoints on the Vietnam People’s Army and virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
*The General Department of Technical Services provided free health check-ups and medicines for and presented gifts to national contributors in Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province. Military medical doctors also gave health counseling to locals.
* The Naval Academy conducted an activity to popularize the tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army, maritime situation as well as national sea and island protection missions to teachers and students of Le Thanh Liem Secondary School in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.
