PANO – Sets of remains of martyrs from the Kien Giang battlefield in the resistance war for national salvation were finally returned to their families after 40 years, following DNA testing.

A ceremony to hand over the testimonials of DNA testing for martyrs’ relatives was held in Hanoi on April 18th by Vietnam Association for Supporting Martyrs’ Families.

“We are very happy and deeply moved. We have sought for him nearly ten years now”, said Mr. Trinh Thanh Liem, elder brother of martyr Trinh Thien Dam in Thai Binh Province.

According to Lieutenant-General Le Van Han, since March 2011, the Association has supported 143 families of martyrs with DNA testing and 84 cases have been matched.

These 15 martyrs are among 16 cases the Association has conducted this time.

The ceremony on April 18th is the 10th of its kind to date, confirming the efforts of the Association and authorities at all levels to identify martyrs’ DNA so that they could be taken home to rest.
