VPA's rescue contingent races against time to search for earthquake victims in Myanmar
PANO - With support from Myanmar and UAE rescue forces, the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA)’s rescue contingent is racing against time to locate victims trapped beneath the rubble at Ottara Thiri Private Hospital in Naypyidaw.
At 1:00p.m. on April 3 (local time), three more bodies were recovered and brought outside.
Earlier that morning, the Vietnamese rescue contingent divided into groups to conduct search and rescue missions in two key areas inside the hospital, where service dogs and specialized equipment had detected the presence of three victims. One location required heavy machinery to break down walls and clear debris from a collapsed second floor to reach victims on the first floor.
Notably, a UAE rescue contingent joined the effort with service dogs and specialized equipment. Despite extreme heat and difficult conditions, rescue forces from Vietnam, Myanmar, and the UAE worked tirelessly throughout the morning, successfully recovering three elderly victims.
On the same day, the Vietnamese contingent also set up a field medical tent at Ottara Thiri Hospital to provide free medical check-ups and medicines to residents. In addition, another contingent was dispatched to assess and identify further locations requiring rescue operations in Naypyidaw.
