Results of VPA’s search and rescue contingent after four days in Myanmar
PANO - Starting search and rescue operations immediately upon arrival in Naypyidaw, Myanmar early in the morning of March 31, the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) contingent, including 80 troops, service dogs and specialized equipment, has obtained remarkable results. Their efforts have contributed to reducing Myanmar’s loss caused by the recent earthquake.
As of the evening of April 3, after four days, the VPA’s search and rescue contingent recovered 15 bodies from collapsed buildings and hospitals. Attentively, the contingent worked in collaboration with Myanmar and Turkish rescue forces to save one person trapped under the rubble. Meanwhile, the VPA’s contingent provided free medical examinations and medicines, donated funds for local people, and handed over 40 tons of dry provisions to Myanmar to assist people in earthquake-hit areas. Also, during their operations in the collapsed areas, the contingent discovered and returned valuable assets to families in Naypyidaw.

During a meeting with Head of the VPA’s contingent Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department of the General Staff on April 3, Myanmar Fire Services Department Director-General U Myat Thu highly praised the spirit, responsibility, and efforts of the Vietnamese contingent, underscoring that the Vietnamese contingent worked tirelessly from early morning until late at night in difficult and dangerous conditions to assist Myanmar people, successfully saving a victim.
