Vietnamese and Lao defense leaders visit Vietnam-Laos-China border marker
PANO - A high-ranking delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, and a high-ranking delegation from the Lao Ministry of National Defense led by Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Vongkham Phommakone, along with the officials from the Chinese Defense Attaché Office in Vietnam, visited Border Marker A Pa Chai on March 21.
After several hours of travel, the delegations arrived at the westernmost point of Vietnam. Border Marker A Pa Chai is located on the top of Khoan La San Mountain in Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province of Vietnam, adjacent to Zone 11, Yot Ou district, Phongsaly province of Laos, and Qushui town, Jiangcheng county, Yunnan province of China.

The tri-border marker was constructed by Vietnam, Laos, and China in 2005. The entire marker is made of granite with a hexagonal pedestal, erected on a square foundation measuring at 25sq.m. The marker is 2m high with three sides facing the directions of the three countries, each inscribed with the name of the country in their national languages and adorned with the national emblem, respectively. The border marker is also known as Marker Number 0, the starting point of the Vietnam-China shared borderline.

After saluting the border marker, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Senior Lieutenant General Vongkham Phommakone, and officials from the Chinese Defense Attaché Office in Vietnam emphasized the political and diplomatic significance of Border Marker A Pa Chai. They expressed the desire for the infrastructure and the road to the marker to be upgraded, not only to continue building a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative border area, but also to meet the travel need of the local people.
On this occasion, the delegation visited and presented gifts to A Pa Chai Border Post under the Dien Bien provincial Border Guard Command.
