During the meeting with the Indonesian deputy defense minister, General Cuong congratulated the Indonesian Defense Ministry on successfully organizing events in the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship Year, contributing to maintaining cooperation and raising ASEAN’s position. He also expressed his delight at the sound cooperation ties between Vietnam and Indonesia.

On the basis of signed agreements, both sides agreed to promote and boost defense cooperation in many fields, such as delegation exchange at all levels, dialogue mechanisms between the two defense ministries, forces, while considering to expand cooperation in other potential fields, such as defense industry, logistics, and military medicine, and supporting each other at multilateral forums and events.
He hoped that maritime law enforcement forces of both countries would beef up information exchange and cooperation, and help trawlers and fishermen in distress at sea, as well as treat them in accordance with the two countries’ relations and the spirit of ASEAN solidarity.
Meanwhile, at the bilateral meeting with Filipino Deputy Defense Minister Irineo C. Espino, both sides agreed that the bilateral defense cooperation over the past time has been effectively implemented in all fields, including delegation exchange at all levels, consultations, and supporting each other at forums and ASEAN-led multilateral cooperation frameworks.

He expressed his hope that the two sides would soon sign agreement on bilateral defense cooperation and memorandum of understanding on bilateral logistic support, while the law enforcement forces would work together to support each other and fishermen at sea.
They both agreed that defense cooperation has a lot of potential and assigned functional units to studying to further promote defense cooperation in line with the bilateral relationship.
In the time ahead, the two defense ministries will closely work together to effectively implement all signed documents and agreements. General Cuong also urged both sides to continue to boost friendship exchange between the Vietnamese and Filipino navies stationed on the two islands of Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) and Song Tu Dong (Northeast Cay) to raise troops’ awareness so that they could fulfill assigned tasks, contributing to promoting the bilateral defense relations.
