Vietnam sends more peacekeeping officers to U.N. missions
PANO - The Defense Ministry, on April 8 in Hanoi, held a ceremony to hand over decisions of the State President and the Defense Minister to three military officers who will join U.N. peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Abyei.
Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, who is also Head of the MND’s Steering Committee on Vietnam’s Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations, chaired the event and assigned tasks to the three officers.

At the event, he requested them to promote the tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army and Vietnamese peacekeeping force, show their strong will, and spread the good image of the Vietnamese people and military in international arena.
Meanwhile, they should also strictly follow the Party, State, and Vietnam People’s Army’s guidelines and policies, and ensure absolute safety. General Chien hoped that with solidarity and efforts, the three officers would accomplish their assigned tasks and international service.

So far, Vietnam has sent 799 troops to U.N. peacekeeping missions and headquarters.
According to the decision, the three military officers taking part in U.N. peacekeeping operations this time are Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu, who will work as a military observer at the U.N. Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA); Major Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan, who will act as a logistics and staff officer at the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in Abyei; and Captain Nguyen Tien Long, who will work as a military observer in South Sudan.
